Congressional trade filings, strategy backtesting and technical charts, built on data we can point at. Where a tool is still being rebuilt, this site says so rather than fill the space with numbers it cannot source.

READING CONGRESS TRADES

Congressional trades, read carefully

Members of Congress must disclose a stock transaction within 45 days of making it under the STOCK Act β€” so this data is always a look backward, never a live feed. The congress-trades browser refreshes daily from filed disclosures and shows each trade as it was filed. Start there, or with the weekly biggest-trades digest if you want the signal without the full firehose.

Two things to know before drawing conclusions. First, amounts are reported by members as ranges, not exact dollar figures, and this site shows ranges as ranges β€” any tracker giving you a precise dollar value for a congressional trade is inventing precision the filing does not contain. Second, the 45-day window itself gets stretched: the late-filers tracker measures how many days actually pass between transaction and disclosure, and which members are the slowest to file. Per-member history lives on the member pages, and if you would rather get new disclosures by email than check the browser, Congress Trading Alerts sends a free weekly digest, with a daily Pro option for readers who follow specific tickers or members.

BACKTESTING, HONESTLY

Backtests that admit what they don't know

Every strategy in the strategy library β€” trend following, mean reversion, momentum and the rest β€” runs in the backtesting engine against the same historical price data, and results are computed by a published validation methodology, including the patterns that fail. A backtest that only ever confirms is advertising, not research.

To run your own idea, build it in the strategy builder and check the methodology page before trusting any equity curve it produces. The charts and the seasonality screener use adjusted end-of-day bars rather than live quotes, and the free courses cover overfitting first β€” the reason most good-looking backtests fail on real money.

SOURCES AND LIMITS

Where the numbers come from

Congressional records are derived from the public filings members publish at house.gov and senate.gov, delivered through Financial Modeling Prep. Market data β€” prices, quotes and historical bars β€” is delayed end-of-day data with automatic fallback providers when the primary source is unavailable. Neither source is perfect: filings are self-reported, delayed and stated as ranges, and market quotes are delayed rather than real-time and can be incomplete. Those limits are spelled out in the disclaimer, not buried in it.

The data-vendors benchmark compares the quote providers against each other and publishes the results even when they are unflattering to a provider this site pays for. When a published figure turns out wrong, the corrections policy describes how it gets fixed in the open. Developers who want the same data programmatically can use the free API β€” no key required within the rate limit.
